In hopes of avoiding early exit in the AFCON 2023, Ghana Coach Chris Hughton is confident that the Black Stars won’t repeat the errors of two years ago, which resulted in their early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The destiny of Group B in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hangs in the balance as Ghana prepares to face Mozambique in an anticipated match at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara on Monday night.
In a shocking turn of events during the previous tournament, the Black Stars suffered a loss to Comoros in their final group game when only a point was needed to advance to the knockout stages.
While Hughton wasn’t the Coach of the Black Stars in Cameroon two years ago, he served in a technical advisor role for the team.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager emphasized that the events from the tournament two years ago would serve as their guide and reminder for their crucial game against Mozambique on Monday.
“In relation to what occurred two years ago, some players are here, and some are not. Players, in their careers, become accustomed to bouncing back from defeats and strive to leave the past behind,” he stated during the pre-match press conference.
“Concentrating on past events could affect your preparations. We acknowledge the past, but our focus is solely on what lies ahead, and that’s a challenging match,” he added.
